About Deejay, Sportsman and Producer
Biography I am Deejay Standish(Full names Standish Mbongeni Ndlovu) an avid music lover, dj, promoter and sportsman currently based in England, UK. I have been a music collector since the early days of SA Disco, Garage, Acid House, Funky House, and through to the main stream genres of House and the locally adapted SA version which we all know as Kwaito today.
Taking influences from the likes of Mc Hammer in the late 80's, Michael Jackson, Robin S, Inner City, Ten City, Tehnotronic, Black Box, Salt 'n Pepa, Mix Masters, Brenda Fassie, Mercy Pakela, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Stimela, Juluka, PJ Powers, Peta Teanet, Paul Ndlovu, Lazarus Kgagudi, Rebecca Malope, Soul Brothers, Chicco, Kamazu, Senyaka and many more in the early to mid 90's I developed an all-round affection for music and every song that made my mother, father, grannies, aunts, siblings, and uncles burst into a jig. These are the people that moulded and nurtured my affection for music and from a very young age I can vividly remember that I was almost, always the one that sat next to radio selecting the songs and singing to almost every lyric(albeit the remixes which i did when i did not understand the actual words).
My House addiction was later rubber stamped with the advent of Mixtapes done by the likes of Arthur(Mix Masters), Oskido(Mix Masters & Star Taxi Series), Dj's Choice Series, Payola and many other brands which hit the streets in the mid to late 90's before Kwaito took over for a brief spell.
Obviously in the mid to late 90's, radio had a lot influence too in my love for music with Mmabatho(now Motsweding, Ukhozi(which has been there for as long as I can remember) and later Y-Fm, and Metro Fm amongst the other sources of influence and access to more off-shore(underground) and International sounds and music which could not be accessed locally or in the streets.
Later, Clubs like Razzmataz, Arena, Las Vegas, The Lloyds, Euorpa, Ambassador, The Rock, La Rumba, Rockafellaz, Soper10, Electric Workshop, The Base and many more were the the places I used to go to celebrate at or hear that latest tune, before the advent of Malls and City/Surburbs Living(Emafletini or EmaKhishini). This is where I later met up and befriended most of my music idols and/or sources and some were even famous (locally if not internationally) guys like, Thuso The Dj, Dj Spaghetti, Alaska's Les Ma Ada, New Skool's Abie, Brenda Fassie, Ludwe Maki, Patricia Majalisa, Mandoza, Ishmael, MaVusane, Wanda Baloyi, Penny Penny & Solly(Shangaan owner of various clubs around Jozi) only to mention a few. My aim was to be a dancer or even make it as an artist or dj, but unfortunately the death of my uncle(who was a catalyst and unwitting agent) in 1997 meant I had to curtail some of my ambitions and focus on other things and my education. However, the passion for music never stopped and I continued dj'ing at small events and collecting music.
When I moved to England in 2003, I teamed-up with my friends Skizo and Simmy4Life whom I always used to bump into at parties they dj'd at and we started hanging out and dj'ing together for a while alongside my other dj friends like Voo C, TSmallz, Thamu & Zola, Mtshuza, Griimmy West, Jojoba, Styles only to mention but a few.
In late 2008 we teamed up with Deejay Soulja Howie, a friend of ours that Skizo had met and befriended at Church. He came on board with ideas and we started teaching ourselves production and by Easter 2009 we already had a few compositions and productions under our belt.
Prior to that In Feb, 2009 Skizo and I formed a label called The Houstronauts and we never looked back in our shared love for music and we continue to entertain, produce and host parties under that label since then, bar Simmy4Life who has since gone solo, and Howie who is in temporary musical exile(if such a word existed) due to work commitment and relocation.
Nowadays, I host a weekly show callled Strictly SA/Localz Lekker on www.afrodeepradio.com alongside my friend ThB Mahlaba and and have also had guest appearances(mixtapes) at 5fm, qhradio.nl and smoothtrax radio amongst a few. I also do promotions and appearances (promotional/dj services) at my fellow promoters and dj friends' gigs. I also continue to help further expose our Houstronauts label, any new dj talent (at the gigs we host), many upcoming and/or established Global artists, as well as Myself in my radio show and mixtapes . I also continue to support all the other music genres across the Globe, but my passion is in House Music at present. I have managed to strike good rapports with many artists and djs across the Industry who continue to advise and help me. In return, I help them in every small way I can, to expose and market their productions in this competitive market, whilst still nurturing my own interests and learning from them too as I go along. I am hoping to release our(Houstronauts Label) own material and continue to grow our Houstronauts Brand (which is open to all parties interested but has 2 core members, Skizo & I) in the near future.
I have dj'd alongside, co-ordinated(upfront/background), hosted and/or curtain raised guys like Fabrizio Ortella, Dj Fresh, Euphonik, Cleo, Black Coffee, Otis Frazer, Glen Lewis, Christos, Revolution, Fistaz Mixwell, Oskido amongst the rest. I regard myself as amateur and I still continue to learn from my peers, my mistakes and pitfalls. I always make it a point to try to learn & grow from them, personally and/or professionally. The ultimate reward for me is to see people happy and thankful and appreciative, when I entertain them. All else is just a bonus for me. The passion I have for music is undying and eternal. I will continue to entertain for as long as I possibly can.
May the peace, unity, respect and above all love continue to touch you all.
The rest as they say...is not necessary public interest at the moment and I don't need to bore you. Well not in the short-while at least. However, if you need to interact more, feel free to check my normal FB profile and/or inbox me if you are not already in my network or friends list.
