ABOUT DJMUSH SODEEP
I Musa Kennedy Masungwini aka Mush, was born in Lulekani, and I was raised in Malamulele Township – it is in the Limpopo Province – South Africa. My dad possessed a sound system; he played variations of music to cater for all. I personally fell in love with house music when my elder brother (Tiyani) bought MidTempo Vol 1 mixed Glen Lewis (SA) and 45 BPM MidTempo. All I ever wanted to do was to mix 2 tracks into each other. In 1998 Dj Fresh released Fresh House Flava 1 and from that point on, I just wanted to be the next Dj Fresh. I started my Dj career the year 2003 as a Computer (Software: Atomix mp3) Dj, I initially played at parties in Sunnyside Pretoria. My background:
My first big break was when I played on my birthday. The party was in 2008 Co.fi in Hatfield hosted it, I played alongside Dj Mamba and Ivy Ngamla. At this point management at Co.fi Hatfield realized my potential and offered me a more frequent set at their venue as “The Resident Dj.” Knowing me I embraced that opportunity; grabbed it with both hands. Soon after my harness, Co.fi Hatfield then became the most talked about hang out spot in Pretoria. It blew up and in no time promoters sought to host events every weekend there. Due to the success of Co.fi I found myself rapidly playing opening and closing sets for the country’s top Dj’s the likes of Dj Fresh, Euphonik, Miggs, Fistaz Mixwell, T Bo Touch, Dj Nutty, Mo Flava and MacG. Information and skills training:
In December 2008 I was approached by a group called Fucharsounds led by Thekiso Sof T Mfulwane and Fredd Matloga. Fucharsounds Entertainment is an organization that is dedicated to the existence of South African house music, the scenes and the amusement of house music consumers. They mainly focused on Deep House music luckily at the time they were looking to beef up their team and decided to involve me. I hastily added youthful spunk with my lavish diversity as a Dj and as anticipated I added an element of assortment. When I joined Fucharsounds, they taught me how to improve upon my forte. This undying hunger for skill enabled me to learn how to handle crowds with much emphasis on discipline in regards to conduct as a public figure. Not overlooking that both the image and brand needed protection, Fucharsounds and Dj Mush then teamed up well and has since been consistent.
Experience:
My experiences lead me to meet many more people in the Dj industry, to which I have enveloped a friendship list with popular Dj’s. Such as, the likes of Dj Mamba; Dj Malwela; Dj Vernon; Dj Funk and Dj Corne. I am proud to announce during my trials, I played in successful hangout spots i.e. Cappello; Voodoo Lounge; Zanzu; News Café; Ginger Square Hatfield and University of Johannesburg. Not overlooking RAG Farm 2009 with Euphonik and Mariuse Martise, which by the way panned out to be a huge success. To solidify the venue gigs my greatest achievement was the opportunity to have a large response to my mix tapes, which soon aired online check out www.soundrepublic.co.za and very popular community radio stations such as UJ Fm 95.4, Top Stereo 93.6. I still aspire to play alongside the greatest Dj’s in the world. To mention a few, Dj Christos; Vinny Da Vinci; Black Coffee; Kent; Oskido; Cleo; Rocco; Manoo and Mzee. I’ll keep at it until it materializes realized my dreams. Motivation:
Mildred Mcafee, says “If you have a great ambition, take as big a step as possible in the direction of fulfilling it. The step may only be a tiny one, but trust that it may be the largest one possible for now.” My quotes:
We all know how fame can make or break you, “Most youngster experience popularity with fame then tend to be famous with wrong reason. As a result they loose the concept, which originally was firstly about the craft to the masses as apposed to the latter.”
